Cllr. Hazel Lees congratulated local residents for their role in smashing all previous records and making this summer the best ever for recycling in Stockport.

Stockport already has a reputation as one of the country’s leading green councils. Now thanks to the huge investment by Stockport’s Liberal Democrats in recycling and thanks to the efforts of local residents we are on course not only to remain the best metropolitan authority in the country for recycling but to smash all previous records.

Improved Recycling

We have seen improved performance in recycling and composting due to the roll out of the blue sacks and the mixed paper and card bins across the borough. Local residents also received increased promotional activity during ‘Recycle More week’.

The latest estimate for the total amount of waste removed from landfill is a staggering 42%.

Cleaner Streets & Open Spaces

Investment in new vehicles, cleansing and enforcement are having an impact. Regular inspections and residents’ compliments tell us things are getting better.
